The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique adventure in hiking and riding that should be loved by everyone.
The Kerem Tunnel is the first bike tunnel to be constructed in Israel and was inaugurated as part the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles the capital.

נווה פריצקי The 2.1-kilometer long tunnel was opened on Thursday by Jerusalem and the heritage minister Ze'ev Elkin and Mayor Moshe Lion. Avi Baleshnikov of Gihon, chairman of Gihon and a plethora of other cyclists were also in attendance.

"In the past, Jerusalem was an attractive tourist city due to its glorious past. Elkin said that today aside from its rich history, Jerusalem also incorporates modern tourists. "The launch (of this tunnel project) is a further step in the growth of Jerusalem, and it's transformation into a sought-after tourist destination for all kinds of visitors in Israel as well as around the world."

Elkin, whose ministry together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, explained that his ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year in the improvement of Jerusalem's tourism in all its aspects and in the creation of innovative activities and ventures that connect the glorious historical past of our capital city to the future of Jerusalem... I encourage you to take your bicycles on a scenic maintained, well-maintained path that looks out over Old Jerusalem.

Elkin's Ministry Elkin's Ministry Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality as well as the Gihon Corporation all contributed to the project. The Jerusalem Development Authority completed the work.

"The new tunnel, which will connect to the long Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect the existing bike paths in the city and those that will be paved in the various neighborhoods in the hope of encouraging cycling among its residents and its visitors and promoting the green revolution of transportation in the capital city."

In the 1990s, in the 1990s, Kerem Tunnel was excavated to relocate the main sewer line from Gihon Corporation to the Sorek purification plant. It is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel and houses the fifth water line to Jerusalem by the Mekorot water company.

The work currently in progress includes road construction, installation of blowers and advanced electrical and safety systems, to make the tunnel safe for people to walk through all year round.
